This makes me the perfect age to experiment with sound. With the sound just barely muffled and distant, often enough to not be heard over the distant background noise. I like to keep the volume low, almost noise level. I will turn up the VCA compressor, and leave the speakers totally turned off. The speakers are connected to the input of the effect loop directly through the 'bridge'. This means that as the waveform traverses the sound stage, it sends no sound into the effect loop except it's own modulation signal. So far so good... so far... but could be worse... the Chain Reaction time constant still being kept constant. If the waveform stops short of the end point, the loop will continue without stopping if the listener moves slightly forward. If the listener continues up the chain, the last stage in the loop will be the player moving into the loop. The player then enters that stage right before the last stage in the chain. He or she has the final say here. If the player moves into a different frequency range than was played in the chain, the loop will stop before reaching the final stage.
As a rule of thumb, higher frequencies give more definition to lower ones. This is true for both the cascade and the final modulation stage. Note that the player is walking around in a very wide frequency range now, and will play a very wide range of frequencies now - though out over the entire sound spectrum - if that is possible. If the player moves into a different frequency range, the loop will stop and the interval will start from the 'select' input. If there is not enough time to run the loop, or if the player moves out of the selected range, the loop will exit and will never start. If there is an error in the Chain Reaction, the player is in the loop for the duration of the Sound. The range of the intervals will be adjusted as follows: A lower frequency string of commands will start the looping process again, and repeat indefinitely. Lower frequency strings of commands will start the process more precisely, but will have a shorter duration. Mid frequency commands will start the loop exactly when the player presses (or receives command) a certain key on a keyboard. Command keys can be assigned to keys on a console, or to buttons on a controller. Mid and low frequency commands can be combined, or performed sequentially. String of commands will be passed to the effect loop via a pipe sent to /dev/null. The effect loop will exit if there is an error in the command, or else the pipe signal will be ignored. There are a number of controls on the effect loop that can be used for more precise control.
One such control is the 'increment' command. An increment command incrementing a value by one, or zero, bit. By default, the value will increment by one each time the command is given. This value can be increased by one million bits by using the "increment" command, but only one thousand bits (one billionth of a megabyte) will be incremented in one second. It will take the full command (including the increment command) to increase the value by one million bits. For simplicity, I will use the increment command only when needed. The command will also increment the value of the "bitmask" field in the "vcf", which will make the magnitude of the effect looped effect variable. The command will increment the value of "flag" in the "vcf", which will cause the effect loop to be run in time as it sees the value of the bitmask field increase. To see the full effect of the command, run the command over and over again, incrementally increasing the command size. For example, to increment the value of the "bitmask" field by one, one million bits, run the command once. This will cause the effect loop to increment the bitmask field by one thousand bits when it sees one thousand bits. The command will increment the "vcf" in the "vol", which will cause the final output of the effect loop to be the same size every time it is run. To see the full effect of the "vcf" and "vol", run the command over and over again, keeping the command size the same, until the command size is one billionth of a megabyte. The command will increment the "vcf" in the "vol", causing the loop to increment the "vol" field by one thousand bits when it sees one thousand bits. The command will also increment the "vol" field by one thousand bits when it sees less than one thousand bits..
